Queens' waterfront skyline — new-construction rental towers with Manhattan views, one subway stop from Grand Central.
§ 01 — About Long Island City
Long Island City — LIC — occupies the western edge of Queens directly across the East River from Midtown Manhattan. Over the last twenty years it has grown from a warehouse-and-manufacturing district into the fastest-growing residential skyline in New York City: more than 30 residential towers have opened since 2005, with another dozen in various stages of construction.
The neighborhood's defining asset is the waterfront. Gantry Plaza State Park runs along the East River from 48th to 54th Avenue, offering some of the best Midtown Manhattan views in the five boroughs — particularly at sunset, when the United Nations and Empire State Building catch the last light. MoMA PS1, one of the world's largest contemporary art institutions, sits at Jackson Avenue and 46th Road.
Transit is exceptional. The 7 train reaches Grand Central in 5 minutes and Times Square in 9; the E and M at Court Square reach Fifth Avenue in the same window. NYC Ferry's East River route adds a water option. For residents who work in Manhattan but want newer inventory, more square footage per dollar, and skyline views, LIC has become the default alternative.
